Scrub Hare Reintroduction Project

Scrub Hare Reintroduction Project

This is an exciting new project to repopulate the Mfuleni Reserve/conservancy in Zululand with Scrub Hares.

These Scrub Hares historically occurred here, but have disappeared over the years due to poaching and various other factors. New ownership and management is now in place so this is a golden opportunity to bring these small mammals back into the area and FreeMe Wildlife are proud to have initiated this project working together with the Wild Tomorrow Fund and Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife.

The two Scrub Hares released in this video were both hand reared at FreeMe Wildlife and are the first two Scrub Hares to be introduced into the area. We are now heading into baby season (October – January) and will likely be raising many more Scrub Hares which will be released into the same area.
