Reintroduction Projects

Reintroduction Projects

FreeMe Wildlife prides itself in collaborating with a multitude of like-minded organizations as well as selected landowners in the running of our long-term reintroduction projects. These projects and collaborations allow us to achieve our mission of releasing rehabilitated indigenous wildlife that come through our center, back into their natural habitat and in turn repopulating areas that have experienced a decline of these naturally occurring species.

Current Reintroduction projects include;

  • The reintroduction of Blue Duiker back into the Dargle Forest, Midlands. A habitat that once supported a healthy population of these tiny antelope

  • The reintroduction of both Black-backed and Side-striped Jackal into the Zululand area. These original populations were devastated by outbreaks of distemper

  • The reintroduction of Scrub Hares, Busbuck, and other species back onto the recently rehabilitated land of the Mfuleni Reserve/Conseverncy in Zululand
