Collaborating and working with land owners and Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, areas have been carefully selected taking potential poaching, predators and human conflicts into account. Natural home range size, terrain and food availability are important factors considered to determine how many Jackals can be released in a selected area without inundating it.
We are currently reintroducing Black-backed and Side-striped Jackals into the Mun-ya-wana Conservancy and Somkhanda Game Reserve in Zululand. Zululand once supported a healthy population of jackals, but due to outbreaks of distemper, their numbers have declined over the years.
